Psalm 82 Labels
written at 5AM September 21 when I could not sleep, worried about the labels I carry in Cindy’s and my separation
82:1 gods are not false gods or angels (angels cannot die) but these are the believers who will judge the world. (1 Cor 6:2-4 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! ) ESV
V2 There are unfair judges showing the wicked partiality. (Mic 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?) V3-4 We are to be rescuers to the weak and needy. Does that mean social Gospel? Or a Spiritual one that preaches salvation in Jesus? V3 the Fatherless
v5 Who is they? Is it the evil judges or the weak and needy? Both are in darkness. Neither understands the power, grace, love of God.
V6 “you are gods, all of you” Jesus quoted this verse to justify calling Himself the Son of God. (BE commentary) The world’s labels do not matter. God calls you His own. Hold on to what Christ has done for you. Above all else He has given you a new name. Rev 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it. (The new name is personal, it is descriptive, it is the name of our soul. No more failure, no more cheater, no more weakling, no more oppressed–but His name is the way He sees you, saved, redeemed, loved, accepted, HIS.)
